As entrepreneurs and business professionals, most of us recognize that our wellness journey plays a role in our productivity levels. But with demanding schedules and constant curveballs, it becomes easy to set aside our own physical needs for “later.”

We need sustainable strategies that account for work and family dynamics, and the unpredictability that comes with them.

Jason and I teach a “Wellness in the Workplace” segment that focuses on simple, foundational practices that only require a few minutes a day.

Our Three Domino Framework

For this series, we’re using the domino metaphor from Gary Keller’s book The One Thing, which illustrates how small, intentional actions have profound impact.

Our first article introduced The First Domino: Sleep & Stress Management.

Digestive Health is the second domino — an overlooked but crucial piece to everyone’s wellbeing. As a core pillar of health, digestion influences immunity, mood, sleep, energy, and focus, with small improvements creating ripple effects over time.

The Second Domino: Digestive Health

Did you know?

•    Around 75% of American adults experience digestive discomfort multiple times per week.
Takeaway: If you struggle with gut health, you are not alone.

•    Between 70–80% of the immune system resides in the gut.
Takeaway: if you are ill frequently, address your gut health first. Better immunity may follow.

•    Over 90% of serotonin is produced in the digestive tract.

Takeaway: if you struggle with sleep, mood, or appetite, it may be related to gut health. Consider reducing sugar, addressing nutritional gaps, and incorporating digestive enzymes and probiotics into your routine (doTERRA’s are top-tier.) Food allergy testing is also beneficial.

Workplace Impact

From an employer’s perspective, the implications of these statistics are significant.  In the workplace, digestive discomfort translates into missed days, diminished focus, and lower productivity.

One of our clients—a dear friend who is legally blind and works at a school for the blind— already faced obstacles getting to work, due to unreliable transportation. Ongoing digestive discomfort compounded the issue, leading to additional missed days. She was grateful for a doTERRA product that soothed occasional stomachaches and allowed her to miss fewer workdays.

If digestive health impacts attendance or quality performance in your business, our “Wellness in the Workplace” workshop offers simple, sustainable strategies.
