Open Mic (5)

For thirteen years, my identity was rooted in the world of education. The classroom was my second home, and my students were part of my purpose. But life has a way of bringing us to crossroads. After over a decade in education, I found myself standing at the edge of change—uncertain about what the next chapter would look like. To be honest, it was both exciting and overwhelming.

Transitions carry their own kind of weight. Starting over professionally can make you question your value, your direction, and even your place in a community. It was in this season of restart that the Lynchburg Region Business Alliance stepped into my story. Instead of feeling like an outsider trying to figure out where I belonged, I was welcomed with open arms and encouragement by the members and ambassadors. People took the time to learn my story, connect me with others, and remind me that I had something valuable to contribute.

That support made all the difference. What could have been a lonely and stressful chapter became one marked by growth and opportunity. The Alliance reminded me that community is not just about who you know—it’s about who stands beside you when you’re starting again.

Becoming an Ambassador was my way of giving back. I know firsthand how much a warm welcome can mean when you’re navigating change, so I make it my goal to offer that same encouragement to others. Every new handshake, every introduction, and every conversation is an opportunity to help someone else feel the sense of belonging I was given.

Lynchburg has not only accepted me—it has embraced me. And through the Alliance, I’ve found purpose in paying that forward, investing in the same community that helped me rebuild with hope and confidence.

Seek and you will find.
