I’m Dalton Brooks, part of the sales team at Bison Printing. I’m a former deputy, a believer, and someone who values hard work, the outdoors, and making real connections with people. Transitioning into the business world has come with plenty of lessons. Some have been tough, others rewarding, but every one of them has helped shape who I’m becoming.

One of the biggest shifts has been going from a physically active job to spending more time behind a desk. I’m an outdoors guy, so finding the right balance between office life and staying active has been a real challenge. Making time for the gym or just getting outside takes more planning than it used to. It’s taught me a lot about discipline, time management, and how important it is to take care of yourself if you want to show up fully for others.

I didn’t grow up dreaming of being in sales, but I’ve found purpose in helping people solve problems and bring their ideas to life. In printing, like in life, being dependable and doing what you say you’ll do goes a long way. Most folks aren’t looking for perfect. They’re looking for someone they can trust to show up and care.

Joining the Alliance and getting involved with the Young Professionals of Central Virginia group has been a big part of that journey. It’s helped me meet people, have real conversations, and better understand the local business scene. Being part of something bigger than yourself keeps you grounded and gives you momentum.

If I had to share one takeaway, it would be this: don’t try to be something you’re not. Be genuine. People respond to honesty and humility more than a polished pitch. I’ve tried to stay true to my faith, treat people well, and put in the work.

There’s a lot to appreciate about this region and the people in it. I’m thankful for where I am and looking forward to what’s ahead.
