This week, communities across the country are recognizing Economic Development Week and Small Business Day, two important reminders that strong local economies are built through vision, partnership, and entrepreneurship.

Here in the Lynchburg Region, economic development is more than attracting new companies. It’s about creating an environment where businesses of all sizes can start, grow, and thrive. Through regional collaboration, workforce development, strategic planning, and business support, our region continues building momentum as a place where opportunity lives.

At the heart of that work is the regional economic development team, comprised of our local economic developers and partners, which serves as a resource for companies looking to locate, expand, or invest in our region. From connecting businesses with available sites and workforce resources to showcasing the region’s strategic advantages, the team works every day to position the Lynchburg Region for long-term success. Their efforts help strengthen our local economy, attract investment, and support the industries that power our communities.

But economic development doesn’t happen only at the corporate level. It starts with entrepreneurs, innovators, and small business owners willing to take an idea and turn it into reality.

That’s where the Small Business Development Center – Lynchburg Region becomes an essential partner. The SBDC provides free, confidential business advising and educational resources for startups and established businesses alike. Whether an entrepreneur needs help writing a business plan, securing financing, developing a marketing strategy, expanding operations, or navigating government contracting opportunities, the SBDC offers expert guidance every step of the way.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. They create jobs, bring innovation, and add character to our communities. Economic development organizations help create the conditions for success, while small business support organizations help turn potential into progress.

This week, as we celebrate Economic Development Week and Small Business Day, we also celebrate the people doing the work, business owners, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and partners committed to making the Lynchburg Region stronger.

Because when small businesses grow, our region grows with them.
